Protecting these natural heritage areas is essential to the sustainable management of natural resources. Ontario’s network of natural heritage areas has been established to protect and conserve areas that represent the diversity of the natural regions of the province, including the species, habitats, special features and ecological systems which comprise that natural diversity.

Original signed on Thursday February 17 th, 2005 The Nova Township Clay Plain Peatlands Conservation Reserve will be managed under the jurisdiction of the Area West Supervisor of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Chapleau District. Comments and concerns registered then are reflected in this Statement of Conservation Interest. The public was consulted prior to the regulation of Nova Township Clay Plain Peatlands Conservation Reserve and prior to the approval of this SCI. This SCI was been reviewed by staff specialists at both the district and regional level of the Ministry of Natural Resources. Should significant facility development be considered or complex issues arise requiring additional studies, more defined management direction, such as a conservation reserve Resource Management Plan ( RMP), may be developed. More detailed direction at this time is not anticipated. This basic SCI will provide guidance for the management of the conservation reserve and the basis for the ongoing monitoring of activities.
